(BLOG) RED: (RED) at Work in Rwanda
Inspiring words about the purpose of (RED), and I’m glad to have been able to donate with my iPod nano 4G (RED) purchase. Yes, we could have donated more directly and we do donate to other programs fairly regularly, but it’s nice to be able to contribute a small amount of something I was going to buy anyway to a cause like this.
On the topic of the donation itself, though, I must admit that I’ve never known what portion of a (RED) purchase actually gets donated. Is it a percentage? Does (RED) work out a specific dollar amount of each product? Or is it something else?
I did some digging tonight at the JoinRed.com website and couldn’t find anything. Fortunately, my friend Molly pointed me towards the aforelinked post at the official (RED) blog that offers anecdotes of success in Rwanda with funds from the program. While I still can’t find anything meaty about donation amounts across the rest of the program, this post offers a timely mention at the bottom that $10 (or ~5 percent) from each of the shiny new (RED) iPod nano 4Gs that Apple just released goes toward the cause.
That ain’t much, but it’s $10 more than (RED) would have gotten if I had purchased any other color, and I happen to think the new (RED) iPod nano looks pretty badass. I’ve always stuck with white and black iPods all these years, so I’m glad to do a little bit of good with the first colorful iPod I’ve ever bought.
The one that made me laugh out loud in Starbucks just now: “SARAH PALIN KNOWS SHE CAN PICK UP THAT SPILL WITH JUST ONE SHEET OF BOUNTY, THE QUICKER PICKER-UPPER.”
My wife, Jessi, discussing part time job opportunities so she can get back to writing. It’s bizarre, because she really is a wonderful, warm, giving, caring woman. She, like many decent retail employees these days, has more of an issue with the kind of customer who wears “the customer is always right!” on their sleeve.
